Let us see so the Egyptians just arrested an Iranian diplomat and charged him with espionage.

Now Egypt and Iran has no diplomatic relations since 1979 and Egypt has been very concerned about the rule of Iran in the arab world where large Shi3a minorities exist as in the case of Lebanon. And what is most significant now is that Egypt also has a Shi3a minority. But the Egyptian military wanted to normalize the diplomatic relations between Egypt and Iran. So far so good

Now the Iranian spy that was arrested is Sayed Qassem el-Husseini and he is a diplomat and he just arrived in Egypt. The Egyptians wanted things to happen with no much publicity but the word came out in al-Arabiya the TV channel that is owned by the Saudis who has no like for Iran. And with the news of the arrest being out in the open, Egyptians had no choice but to admit that they really arrested him and he is charged with espionage and he will be be deported back to iran and what is most amazing is that he just arrived in Egypt!

Oh there is more: The minister of intelligence in Iran Heider Moslehi is telling any one who is listening that this is all misunderstanding and the spy is not really a spy but a curious diplomat! Oh well at least he is trying.

So I would not hold my breath about seeing a full Iranian embassy in Cairo in the near future
