MISUSE OF UNIVERSITY CACHETReader comment on item: [Hamid Dabashi:] Columbia University's Hysterical Professor Submitted by IVAN CHER (Australia), Dec 2, 2004 at 01:44 It's not only bigots in tenured academic posts like Hamid Dabashi, who unabashed, are misusing their positions AT THE EXPENSE OF REPUTATIONS OF THEIR UNIVERSITIES.Are there many universities left untainted by islamicised "Red/Green" departments where M.E. ISSUES ARE CONCERNED? The School of Oriental and Asian Studies at Univ. of London [Eng] is taking flak because its students are hosting the following conference, with usual suspects as speakers. Universities are thus besieged by those seeking to use ivory towers to simulate moral high ground. = == == ================================ On 5 December, 2004, students of the School of Oriental and African Studies of the University of London will host a conference, titled: " Resisting Israeli apartheid strategies and principles" http://www.stormfront.org/forum/showthread.php?t=133568&goto=lastpost http://www.monabaker.com/documents/5December2004conferencefinal2.doc This conference has crossed the line from legitimate political criticism, because the featured speakers: Declare support for national liberation movements, except the national liberation movement of the Jewish people. Deny the right of the Jewish State to exist. Approve of the policies of EU member states, such as Hungary, Ireland, and Greece, that privilege the right of individuals of Hungarian, Irish, and Greek diaspora ethnicity to return as citizens, while condemning the Jewish State for providing such citizenship to Jews. Call for the slaughter, on sight, of members of a particular ethnic group. Tom Paulin, an Oxford academic, the keynote speaker at the conference has said of Jewish immigrants to Israel, " I think they are Nazis, racists, I feel nothing but hatred for them." You can find more information about speakers: Tom Paulin: http://www.nationalreview.com/comment/comment-gross111202.asp http://www.nationalreview.com/nr_comment/nr_comment050802.asp Mona Baker and Lawrence Davidson: http://www.logosjournal.com/davidson.htm http://www.monabaker.com http://www.counterpunch.org/baker09182003.html Lisa Taraki http://www.zmag.org/content/showarticle.cfm?SectionID=22&ItemID=6073%20 John Docker http://www.petitiononline.com/bin/petition.html The main sponsor of the event is listed as Mr Abdul Mohsen Al-Qattan ============================================== A search on google at http://www.rediscoveringpalestine.org.uk/Members%20-%20Al%20Qattan.html shows that The AM Qattan Foundation (London, Ramallah and Gaza) and the Al-Qattan Charitable Trust (Guernsey) were set up by a Palestinian, Mr Abdul Mohsen Al-Qattan, to provide funding for educational and cultural projects in the Arab world with a special focus on Palestine. Clearly, it is easy to find your institution discredited by such goings on.
