you ruined iranReader comment on item: [Hamid Dabashi:] Columbia University's Hysterical Professor Submitted by somebody (New Zealand), Dec 6, 2005 at 20:07 Hayden Ataune, you're right!I wonder why did iranians take the name persia and persian for their language. there are many countries which are ethnically closer to the Indo-european and ancient persians but they didnt take the name persian...persian is not an ethnicity that half of the dark-skinned people of iran can have. As far as Dr. Kaveh Farrokh (P.h.D, professor of archeology sepcialised on the ethnic of ancient iranians) said "...many peoples of present-day yougoslavia and Ukraine would have ressembled the ancient iranians..." which means the iranians are not the same as the peoples of ancient persia, and the term would apply to many countries of this descent such as( Caucasus: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ossetia parts of Chechen...central asia: tajikstan, etc...) Not just IRAN. the name persia remained for Iran because Iran was the mainland(where the capital was situated) of empire till qajar era and after that the turkey came as ottomon empire and ussr from top and captured some persian descent cities, thats why the name iran applies to iranians in present-day iran. the language should be called Farsi because when it was mixed with arabic(both grammar and vocabulary) they gave it a new name because the arabs dont pronounce the letter"P" they used "F" insted. so that's not the same as the original persian...it is a different language therefore its got a new name! the iranians just know how to ruin the ancient persian history and the indo-european heritage.
