The antiracist racismReader comment on item: [Hamid Dabashi:] Columbia University's Hysterical Professor Submitted by R. HARANDIAN (United States), Dec 3, 2004 at 23:27 I read most of comments on this site. It is truly appalling. Hamid Dabashi expresses his perception of relation between officers in the israeli army. The response from the former Israeli officer goes well and within norms of intellectual debate. But then he blows it by making totally ignorant remarks about Iran. The government of iran is disliked by many, but hanging jews in the street!? Come on. I know you get emotional ,but stirring other people's emotion by this kind of comment from an intellectually mature grad student !Also lacking is the evidence of anti-semitism in the al-ahram portion of the article mentioned. Any reader gets the feeling that Dabashi is trying to imply racism in the Israeli army. What is that have to with anti-Semitism ? Then we have all of these other folks mixing Iranians with Arabs in this forum. Is this site for trashing other cultures and countries or is it for well-educated comments?? I get the feeling that Dabashi's comments are maybe hysterical, but some of the commentaries on this site are far more hysterical than his. As a person born in iran and definitely familiar with its culture, I feel offended by remarks (hanging Jews in the streets) by the former israeli officer. Religious minorities have generally been well- treated and they are well-treated even now. This is evidenced by the Israeli president ( born in iran) commenting that Jews that travel out of iran are impatient to go back. Please note that i am not trying to defend any government or country. In a nutshell, stop trashing everything because some guy was hysterical. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please. Comments are screened and in some cases edited before posting. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate.
