Deficit more imminent threat than Sharia

Reader comment on item: Why Chris Christie Will Never Be President of the United States
in response to reader comment: 'Crazies'

Sharia "lawfare" is indeed a threat, but unless/until the US demographics change dramatically, there is only so much damage it can do in the short and medium-term. Demographics change relatively slowly, as opposed to our financial situation which is changing rapidly. Another decade of adding $1 trillion PER YEAR to the deficit will itself do a great deal of damage to the country, and separately, bring us that much closer to a collapse of the larger, Western financial system. A weak or failed financial system will do far more to advance sharia than will a few extra judges or other such inroads.

Gov. Christie seems ignorant of certain dangers, such as fake moderates, but he correctly understands that runaway deficits are by far the most clear and present danger we face. Give him a break; better still, educate him; but don't discard him just because he doesn't currently practice perfect political correctness (conservative flavor)!

If there was a long list of potential Presidential candidates with budget-cutting credibility, then I would agree that Christie's judicial appointment, all else being equal, would move him towards the back of the list. But that list is actually quite short, consisting basically of Mitch Daniels and Christie (and I would rank Christie above Daniels).

C'mon, son. The threat of sharia is real, but it is still mostly a long-term concern; the treat of deficits is much, much more imminent!
