Islamism and Democracy Don't MixReader comment on item: Arab Spring, Muslim Winter Submitted by Dave (United States), Dec 11, 2011 at 12:09 Those who invoke divine sanction for Islamic rule will not permit dissent since Islamic law would label such dissent as blasphemous and therefore punishable by death. This is why the election of Islamists is a one-way street to autocracy. The shame is that the US government is so supportive of the Turkish regime, but that's a symptom of its inability to understand Islam accurately and devise an effective strategy to contain it.
