More Thoughts on Newt Gingrich and the PalestiniansReader comment on item: More Thoughts on Newt Gingrich and the Palestinians Submitted by Judith (United States), Dec 19, 2011 at 18:01 Great interview with Dr. Pipes. Pure and simple history shows no interest in Jerusalem or even Palestine for thousands of years by Arabs except for its geographic location as a trade route between North Africa and Europe. Mohammed never mentioned being in Jerusalem and to this day Muslim Arab children play soccer on the Temple Mount which is disrespectful according to Islam. It's rhetoric only to deny the truth. There is no importance to this region or to Jerusalem unless the Jewish people and Christians care about it. As Dr. Pipes reveals, Palestinians were never interested in the real estate until Jews and Christians tried to take it back from the Ottoman Turks. Contemporary Arab rhetoric is a political invention that if repeated enough was bound to fool some people. It was refreshing to see at least one politician tell the truth.
