It always has and always willReader comment on item: Jerusalem Means More to Jews Than to Muslims Submitted by Stas (Ukraine), Jun 5, 2012 at 00:42 Of course Jerusalem is the holiest of holy places to Jews. The temple was built there and Jerusalem has been mentioned in the Torah and regarded as the center of Judaism. Christians know and respect the Judaic connections and have integrated them into their religious practices. They acknowledge the ties and peacefully make pilgrimages to their holy sites, where they are given free access and exist in harmony. Islam, on the other hand, established only 1400 years ago and had absolutely no interest from Muhamed until he tried to woo the Jews as allies. He even instructed Muslims to pray in that direction, taking many many customs and practices from Judaism. When he fought with them, he changed his mind and had them face Mecca instead. Jerusalem is not mentioned in any place in the Quran. The fact that Muslims try to begrudge Jews this fact is a basic source of contention.
