expressions of loveReader comment on item: Iranians ♥ America, But ... Submitted by myth (Germany), Jun 16, 2012 at 08:29 Kristof asked the wrong questions I am afraid. First, the Iranian nuclear arms program targets Israel, not the US. Kristof should have asked how much the Iranians love Israel. Expressions of love towards Americans miss the essential point here. Dare I say, the essential sentiment is antisemitism? Second, public opinion does not translate into a change of power by itself. As if the US military would register as "uncle sam" with facebook, received 20 million Iranian friends and suddenly there would be peace and happily ever after. One could ask the open question that if the US occupied Iran and installed a democratic regime would that in some way be a favourable outcome in they eyes of the Iranian people? And who do the Iranians want to see in power should such an outcome arrive, with or without the intervention of the US? I wonder what the light and the darkness at the end of the tunnel look like in Iranian imagination.
