Turkey seems to be looking for trouble

Reader comment on item: Mavi Marmara 2010 = Syrian Anti-Aircraft Fire 2012

This commentary is both insightful and deeply disturbing. The last thing the Mediterranean area needs is more turmoil, the unrest and violence in Syria, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, and the Sinai Peninsula could erupt into a shooting war at any time as it is and these deliberate Turkish provocations constitute gross, indeed practically criminal irresponsibility.

While there is apparently little that the United States or Europe can do to rein in the Turkish leader Erdogan and his cronies, perhaps NATO pressure, including the threat of suspending or even revoking Turkey's membership in that organization, might be enough to cause the Turkish government restrain itself. But doing nothing about Turkey's provocative behavior could easily lead to regional conflict which everyone would regret.
