Another "umma" is emergingReader comment on item: Islamism's Unity in Tunisia Submitted by Prashant (United States), Nov 7, 2012 at 02:07 Dear Dr Pipes: It is said that Muslims care only for the Islamic umma. As many have pointed out Islamic minorities are biggest beneficiaries of the freedoms granted by democratic societies. From the taxi drivers in Minnesota who do not want to carry blind passengers with guide-dogs to the Muslim job seekers in India who want affirmative action in every job, Muslims just demand, demand, and demand like petulant cry-babies. Add to that the terrorists everywhere who want to kill wherever possible. Muslims have stolen the global agenda and everyone is a hostage. Luckily a new umma is emerging: the umma of non-muslims. Most human beings --non-muslim human beings, that is-- have learned to live in relative peace inspite of our religious differences. So each non-Muslim community now sees that Muslims are protesting against everyone. Each community also sees that Islamic stands are full of hypocrisy. So communities are uniting. That is why Indians and Israelis sympathize with each other. And that is why readers from tens of different countries read your forum and write on it. I think this new umma will force --by the power of the pen-- Islamists to bring meaningful changes to their religion and society.
