Good articleReader comment on item: Imperial Israel: The Nile-to-Euphrates Calumny Submitted by Gadi Israeli (United States), Feb 2, 2005 at 01:40 I'm an Israeli from Tel Aviv, educated in Israeli public schools, and never heard on the Nile-to-Euphrates idea ever before I met an Iranian guy three months ago. I was born in the 1960's!It is tragic that Arabs fight and fought us for imaginary fear!! I did hear, on the other hand, many calls from Arab leaders to the utter distruction of Israel!! I still hear those from time to time. Israeli kingdom, even in its most glorious times, never stretched as far as the nile and euprates. We have lost nothing on the East bank of the Jordan river. I know of no place there where Israeli Jews dream of returning to. It would have been really cool to keep the Sinai peninsula, where our tradition tells us that Moses walked our forefathers so long ago, but it is not worth fighting for. What will it take to convience you of that? Menachem Begin signed the return of this peninsula, clearly, in writing, to Egypt, and him and his followers since 1978 (almost 30 years now) have respected this agreement. Israelis love taking vacations in Sinai, as long as there was a few months of zero killings of previous Israeli trying to have a peaceful vacation there. Enough for this blind hatred. It would have been funny had it not been so tragic! Gadi Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
