A million dollar reward!Reader comment on item: Interpreting the Israeli elections Submitted by Abu Nudnik (Canada), Jan 28, 2013 at 10:20 If there was a Palestinian state that existed before the state of Israel which, by constituting its statehood, it replaced, a million dollar reward should be offered to the person who can furnish evidence of it. I would consider three things to be solid evidence of a sovereign state of Palestine: 1) Its signature on any international treaty, 2) Its membership in any international organization and 3) an exchange of embassy with any other sovereign state. All the charges of occupation spring from this myth and its spring must be broken. Many well-meaning people, even friends of mine, believe this nonsense. The reasons are deeper than fact and involve myth. The subjection of the "palestinian people" by the Israelis offers the illusion of morality for those who hold this highly fashionable point of view. It also rhymes with the crucifixion, a fact not lost on Arafat who, in a wonderful Nora Desmond impression shouted "They're crucifying him again!" The event? Terrorists (not Israelis) took over the Church of the Nativity. Israeli soldiers waited for them to come out and give themselves up. The terrorists shot at the Israeli soldiers, inviting return fire. When it came and a piece of stone was chipped, then the world paid attention. Not the terrorists who were holding priests and nuns hostage were to blame but the Israeli soldiers outside waiting for the siege to end. That story typifies the Palestinian Arab strategy and, hopefully, provides psychological insight to the support of terrorists in the West. The good news is that "fashionable thinking" is an oxymoron. And fashions change. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
