Yes, the Iraq war did not convincingly conclude with a "happily ever after" ending. Now Syria moved up the list of places of "awfulness in the Middle East". Looking back, maybe the failure with the Iraq campaign was stopping at the Syrian border. For a lot of people in Syria today it certainly was. Why "nation build" when one can continue "dictator dump"? As for Iraq, unlike Syria, I see at least some opportunity to come out "free and prosperous".
