Syrian 'Opposition'Reader comment on item: What To Do in Syria Submitted by sdjames (United States), Apr 2, 2013 at 07:45 Well, that is the problem in a nutshell. The fact that in all these 'Arab Spring' scenarios, the choice is either an inhumane brutal tyrant who oppresses his people, rife with corruption, abuse and rights trampling, or the alternative- an Islamist sharia-goaled barbaric group trying to control the country with Islamist ambitions to be just as brutal and horrific to its citizens (see Hamas, Hezballah,.etc). Why are these the only two choices in each and every case? There is a basic dysfunction in Muslim society that makes it so and they will continue to choose Islamists over dictators because they have no will or democratic comprehension that there could be any other option open to them. There is only so much anyone can do to save them from themselves. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
