VeilReader comment on item: Boston Bombing Lesson: Ban Niqabs and Burqas Submitted by Susan K (Canada), Apr 24, 2013 at 23:01 In all respect: How is showing one's hair immodest? I simply can't understand how women's hair has been transformed into a vile dirty body part. Have you never felt the wind in your hair? As to full body coverings, it's the same story. Are we not born naked? Clothes are protection against the elements (weather). In many African tribes, women and men go around naked except for genital coverings. Do you see them raping women in the tribe? NO. The more we cover ourselves as women and the more difficulty men will have to control their sexual compulsions. This is not a woman's responsibility to assume. Men are not beasts and should not be reduced to such a level through our willingness to comply with their voluntary weaknesses. You must understand that the culture of covering a woman is the result of male insecurity often disguised as religion. I am not saying we should walk around naked but to use 'modesty' as an excuse for fully covering up our bodies to please the males often results in more covering requirements. Islam is the perfect example. In Québec, the government is heading towards a complete ban on religious garments in our public schools and institutions. For those who insist on displaying their religion in school, they can always go to a confessional school that is not subsidized with our taxes. Im confused a bit here.Clearly the majority or Jews and Muslims see an implied religious requirement to cover hair and their bodies because of modesty. I actually heard that the face is not a requirement.Still many people feel that this is how they serve God. I dont understand why they do this but its not up to me to understand . I just know that most people seem to be complaining about full body covering which sounds a little silly to me. If a face is exposed the person can be identified. Covering the body who cares.. In my orthodox jewish neighborhood most ladies (including myself) cover their hair, bodies completely. If they outlaw for Muslim women they can do it in the amish communities and jewish communities too.So whats the solution?
