Palestinian Intransigence Saves IsraelReader comment on item: Is Netanyahu Turning Left? Submitted by Olive Tree (United States), Jul 10, 2013 at 03:12 Dr. Pipes, Most times I think the ONLY thing that saves Israel from destroying itself is 'Palestinian intransigence'! Thanks for that powerful thought. Netanyahu is dangerous in part because he is a leftist masquerading as moderate/right to grab swing votes and manipulate parties to form a government. When he was up for election four years ago, I suggested that his history as a Prime Minister should worry Israel. He can turn on a dime and did exactly so when he traded away Hebron in his prior administration. Judea and Samaria and sometimes Golan represent just so many baseball trading cards for whoever the Prime Minister happens to be. The people who are living there are about as valuable as those who were living in Gush Katif in 2005 or in the Sinai after 1967… just a tool in the hands of an elite gang. Like a Ravi Shankar tune, the mantra from the Israeli Prime Ministers goes in waves. The schizoid government says today 'let's move forward and build in Judea and Samaria …one Israel, One Jerusalem, Never divide our land!' Tomorrow it's 'let's give away hunks of Judea and Samaria for a two state solution'. If you want to know the fate of Judea and Samaria just wait a minute. I feel such admiration sparked by love, compassion and often fear for those who live there and have invested their lives, fortunes and sacred honor in a baseball card. We fell in love with Nadia Matter (Women in Green.org) when we were in Efrat in March. Here is a woman who is trying to save Israel in Judea with a teaspoon and a shovel. Everyone in Efrat rolls their eyes when you mention her name. " She is SO right wing" they moan. But indeed, it is the few who join her ranks to urge the government to annex Judea and Samaria and make Israel sovereign in those territories, who are bringing some semblance of a sane perspective to an otherwise schizophrenic Israeli agenda. A couple of years ago, we received some promotional literature from a group of orthodox in the Golan who were selling pieces of Golani land to protect it 'for the Jews' because the Arabs are buying it up or usurping it wholesale. My response was 'you're kidding' ! … 'Invest in land so Israel can cut it out from under you?'. McDonalds recently declined to build in the region. Can you blame them? So Israel remains in limbo … pulled this way and that for votes and US support. Your article here hit a hot button for me as you can see. Thanks for reminding me that Israel is just one second away from Tzipi Livni, G-d forbid! I am surely glad G-d is in charge of Israel. No normal person would want the job, would you? Thanks for the opportunity to spout off. As usual, a great article! www.israelolivetree.org
