Haredim-Jews in blackReader comment on item: Are Zionism's Prospects So Bleak? Submitted by josef zuares (France), Aug 9, 2013 at 09:24 What it has been going on in Israel with the changes in the draft laws of haredim and Benei Yeshivot is an amazing thing.A tabu has been lifted and that will help them move inside the Israeli society in a way that will benefit Israel as a state and Judaism as well. The benefits of the Jewish state are obvious, but the benefits to Judaism are not,so I shall concentrate on those. As Israel has returned to exist as a nation of the Jews,it is imperative that all the different religious currents that have developed during the Gola, will make the necessary moves to fit in the fabric of Israel population. The Haredim have succeeded in preserving the "Jew" inside their body in a hostile environment, now they need to find the way to preserve it in a much friendlier one,but more dangerous in so many other ways.Their leaders are aware of the difficult task and that is the reason they have been trying for so long to keep apart from the rest of the society, hoping maybe that the society will become more religious or that their numbers will grow fast enough to enable them to become a majority. For their own good and the good of Israel as a modern state,we shall not permit that to happen.Separation of religion from the state is a modern concept that has shown its positive results, israeli arabs face the same problem, they have been keeping themselves largely separated from the israeli society, hoping for the change of Israel into a muslim arab entity, thing that would preserve their identity as today's minority. After sixty five years both communities have the difficult but inevitable task to decide that this a state of things that is not going to change as both, separately have been wishing for. These are two time bombs that are growing in Israel, but they are not dangerous to the israeli society as a whole,as much as dangerous to their own younger generations. If the kids will not find a healthy path to bridge their parents traditions with their new available realities, they will risk to alienate themselves in a way that will endanger eventually their existence as normal citizens.
