Comment for GeekmomReader comment on item: Obama's Diplomatic Acrobatics Submitted by Cassandra (United States), Sep 14, 2013 at 06:51 Not so. We can let 20% of the USA go to Saudis and their ilk. Why do I have this position? Because we did. What should we have done, and when? At OPEC's start, we should have seized the oil wells. Clearly, OPEC was an economic threat to national interests, and known to be so then. Why didn't we? 1) Tired from another dumb war -- Viet Nam (which had no purpose or strategy for winning). 2) We'd get back OPEC money because they'd buy our weaponry, and mistakenly seeing this as useful because they'd oppose the Soviets, it made sense to our nutbag leadership AND THEIR FRIENDS who saw a drop in military funding otherwise 3) Did I mention nutbag leaders? Still with us. Imagine how long the post-9/11 was would last if we actually targeted the enemy -- and would have if McCain was Prez (or anyone who demanded Osama's head within 2 weeks and threatened a nuclear stroke on the Ka'aba if not -- Fundamentalist Islam is clearly the enemy) Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
