Kurdish IndependenceReader comment on item: The Prospect of Kurdistan Submitted by emmett (United States), Oct 1, 2013 at 11:46 Sept. 29, 2013 Subject: Kurdish Independence The U.S. should actively assist the Kurds to attain independence. This action promises to give "much more bang for the buck", than other actions. The Kurds have historically been pro Western and non-Islamist. This foreign policy accomplishment, rarely mentioned by the main stream media or the "pundits", would significantly help the U.S. Separating the Kurds in northern Iraq would spare them from the impending Iraq civil war. We would have an ally in that region. Helping the Kurds in Turkey achieve autonomy would delay, if not deflate, the Islamist, anti Western, pro terrorist policies of Prime Minister Erdogan. Carving out a piece of Syria for the Kurds, to merge with the Iraqi Kurds, would significantly weaken President Assad even if he remains in power.
