Islamists sentenced to deathReader comment on item: The Threat of Islamism Submitted by Vijay (United Kingdom), Nov 3, 2013 at 18:39 During Bangladesh's war of Liberation from Pakistan, the Islamist outfits in Bangladesh wanted to keep Bangladesh as part of Pakistan . They joined the jihadi Pakistan army in committing atrocities against the Bengali population. On the very eve of the surrender of Pakistan army to India, which ended the war, when it was clear that Pakistan has lost and the war would only last few more hours , some of them went on calculated genocide of Bengali intellectuals like academics, journalists, film makers and the like. They killed few hundred in cold blood. That was all happened in 1971. After many ups and downs, and false starts, Bangladesh has at last prosecuted and convicted them of their crimes and sentenced two of them to death. One of them is a "respected" Muslim leader in Britain and another a resident of the US. It is also interesting to note them , for Islamists the Western countries are a safe haven against their own avenging population . http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-24798964 UK and US nationals guilty of Bangladesh war crimes1 hour ago A UK Muslim leader and a US citizen have been sentenced to death over crimes committed during Bangladesh's 1971 war of independence. UK-Bangladeshi Muslim community leader Chowdhury Mueen-Uddin and Ashrafuzzaman Khan were being tried in absentia by a special tribunal in Bangladesh. They were found guilty on 11 charges relating to the abduction and killing of 18 independence supporters.
