Reader comment on item: Is Turkey Going Islamist?
in response to reader comment: NO to Turkey

Submitted by Selin gur (Turkey), May 1, 2014 at 02:23

After having read most of the comments here, I have come to think that people don't know much about Islam and Turkey.

As a Turkish person, I am not satisfied with the government and I don't support them. It is true that they are trying to make us worse, but we keep resisting. We will keep resisting. We will save the values of Ataturk.

Turkish people are not Arabic.

Turkish people generally don't wrap shawls around their heads. But if you do, it is accepted. If you don't, it is okay. (Personally, I don't.)

In Turkey there are many Christians and Jews who can live their religion as they wish. (Personally I have Christian friends and Jewish friends who are Turkish)

Do you know about Ataturk? If you don't, learn about him. It will give you and idea of real Turkish people.

We are not terrorists. We don't support terrorism. Yes, there is terrorism in Turkey but Kurdish people are the responsible, not Turks.

Islam doesn't support violence and Mohammed was a man of peace.

Just because you believe in something doesn't mean that you have the right to judge others' beliefs.

You can be a Christian, Muslim, Jewish or anything you'd like. As long as you are happy with it, IT IS OKAY.

I see that Americans keep judging us. Guys, come on! Have you ever been to Turkey? How can you have so strong opinions about us when you don't know a damn thing for certain?!

Before you judge, LEARN! Expand your knowledge!!

No one has the right to judge another. Let people live in world of peace and freedom.
