Israel needs more "Trojan Horses"Reader comment on item: How Church Attendance Affects American Attitudes toward Israel Submitted by Michael S. (United States), Aug 31, 2014 at 18:56
Shalom, Dave. Let's take these points, one at a time. First, "Christians (particularly evangelicals) want to convert Jews to Christianity" Christians (particularly evangelicals) want to convince EVERYONE, (not just Jews), but cannot convert anyone. "Conversion" is an inner change of conviction: Matt 18 [3] And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Acts 3 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; What's more, Jesus himself was AGAINST converting recalcitrant Jews: Matt 13 [15] For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. Mark 4 [12] That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them. John 12 [40] He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them. Acts 28 [27] For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. Conversion, moreover, was intended for BELIEVERS, not unbelievers: Luke 22 [31] And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: Those verses are from the King James Bible, and contain ALL the references to conversion. Second, "and bring upon the Second Coming" Believing one can somehow hasten the Perousia is a Jewish doctrine, not Christian. Christians are taught simply to watch and wait, and to be prepared; because Jesus could return at any moment, as the scripture says, "like a thief in the night". Third, "Why do you think "messianic" congregations have increased in Israel?" Probably because so many Orthodox Jews are absolute prigs. Finally, your conclusion, "Christian "support" for Israel is a Trojan Horse for proselytism." Since the Jews have not become Christians in large numbers for 2000 years, in countries where they had so little influence and were so outnumbered, I don't expect that many will today in Orthodox-Jewish-controlled Israel. Many Arabs, however, and "non-Jews" from the Ukraine, have become Christians -- and strong allies of Israel. If that's a "Trojan Horse", Israel needs many more like this.
