Another View: Turkey was never actually "good"Reader comment on item: How Turkey Went Bad Submitted by Michael S. (United States), Nov 8, 2014 at 10:40 HI, Gloria I think you've described this complicated matter succinctly, though I see the matter somewhat differently: In my opinion, Turkey was never "won" by the deeply religious majority of the West in Attaturk's day. The latter did not represent the Christians and Jews of the West, but the Atheist, Secular elite. Today, that atheist elite has become "mainstream" in the universities and media, NGOs and international government bodies. Because of its out-and-out enmity with Christianity and Judaism, it today sides with the Islamists against Israel and the US. In this sense, it isn't just Turkey that's "gone bad", but most of Europe as well. If it weren't for American leadership in NATO and the UNSC, and the close friendship of Israel with the US, Atheist Europe and Islamist Turkey would have been lock-step in attacking Israel long ago.
