I feel your pain Mr. Pipes. What you report is actually the standard practice of the American Left, politcal correctness division. Namely attack the commenter to implicitly disaffirm the commenter and his arguments. It is easier than thinking about the issues. This has gone on for the past thirty years that I am aware of, possibly longer. What makes the slander and smother technique work is the monoculture in the American Media and academe.

Any snarky put downs of the arugment or aguer is amplified and extended by the media. It becomes part of the big lie in that endless repetition eventually makes the argument seem mainstream even if there is no relevant evidence behind it. When something occurs that casts the PC establishment in a negative light it quickly vanishes from the public eye. Witness the rapid vaporization of many of Obama's gaffes.

In summary, you are dealing with a modern day Ministry of Truth. I commend you for not giving in and loving big brother. But then they haven't tied you down and subjected you to flesh eating rats, at least not yet.
