Why can't they see what's in front of their eyes?

Reader comment on item: Business as Usual in the Palestinian Authority [after Arafat's Death]

Submitted by yonason (United States), May 18, 2005 at 02:22

I haven't a clue why Mr. Bush so enthusiastically supports the formation of what can only be characterized as the epitome of the terror that he rightly says must be destroyed.

As the Arutz Sheva article, "PA TV Sermon: Subjugate Christians, Exterminate Jews!" (www.israelnationalnews.com/news.php3?id=82128), reports today:

"The Moslem cleric, Ibrahim Mudayris, told Palestinians, 'The day will come and we shall
rule America, Britain, we shall rule the entire world, except the Jews.' ... He [also] told
Palestinian television viewers that the only fate awaiting Jews is death by extermination."

The article continues, in an understatement worthy of the British,

"The sermon's content clearly indicates that the PA under Mahmoud Abbas has not met its
commitment to stem anti-Semitic and anti-Israel incitement in the Palestinian media."

"Not met its commitment," Indeed. As those who have been following this for the past 4 plus years know, any "improvement" in the climate of "peace" is an artifact of IDF activity, and not the result of the "good will" of the "Palestinians."

Even though it is only an introduction, the references Dr. Pipes provides clearly demonstrate that (1) there is no "Palestinian" "good will" (2) the Arutz Sheva article is only 'the tip of the iceberg' and (3) the hope for our leaders' current plans leading to peace is ill-founded.

With their Muslim clerics ceaselessly hammering home the message that, " Israel has no right to exist and will be destroyed," how can anyone hope they believe otherwise? I find it very disturbing that, given the accessability of the facts to us, it is impossible for them (Bush, Rice, Sharon, Mofaz, ....) to NOT know the true "Palestinian" intentions. Consequently, I find the US and Israeli diplomatic initiatives completely incongruous, not just with the "Palestinians" relentless pursuit of death and destruction, but with the fact that we all know about it.

Speaking of icebergs, I think a good analogy would be if the crew of the Titanic were knowingly aiming for that iceberg in the firm belief that, "If we hit it fast enough in just the right spot and at just the right angle, it will split apart and we can sail right through."

And, to carry that analogy just a bit further: we are all passengers on this voyage, not mere spectators. Brace yourselves! The recurring inevitable failure of our leaders' misplaced trust in a people who speak peace while brazenly practicing murder can't help but continue to have a progressively more profound and negative impact on us than it already has.
