Obama & MalcolmReader comment on item: Remembering Malcolm X Fifty Years Later Submitted by Dean_M (United States), Feb 21, 2015 at 19:49 In his book, DREAMS FROM MY FATHER, Obama lists Malcolm X as a kind of spiritual model whose "call" he, himself, is following. Also, it should be pointed out that Iran was the first country to recognize Malcolm X with a postage stamp in his honor. The late Manning Marable, discussing his recent biography of Malcolm X (Marable died just as his book was being published) said Malcolm was inspired by Hussein, the martyr founder of Shia Islam. He had a premonition of his own end, said Marable, as following the path of Hussein. Does Obama's favorable attitude towards Iran go back to this--Malcolm X and Iran's early recogniton of Malcolm and Obama wishing to follow "Malcolm's call" as he states in DREAMS? The Iranian stamp (which can be seen here: https://www.facebook.com/ThePeoplesRecord/posts/465388693531505) came out in 1984 and the American one in 1999. The Iranian one was issued on the country's "Universal Day of Struggle against Race Discrimination." Reader comments (21) on this item
