Islam and slavery of AfricansReader comment on item: Remembering Malcolm X Fifty Years Later Submitted by dhimmi no more (United States), Feb 22, 2015 at 09:47 Dr Pipes I just do not get it why would African Americans convert to and of all religions Islam. Islam and Muslims enslaved their African ancestors and what is most amazing is that the first extant monument of what was to become Islam is a tombstone in Aswan Egypt of an Arab Muhajir (later to be known as Muslim) who was hunting for slaves in Nubia! I just do not get it Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate. Daniel Pipes replies: review the early history of African-American Islam here: http://www.danielpipes.org/13873/african-american-islam More broadly, Islam offered the most comprehensive way to reject the America they lived in. Islam has often served this function, including among Europeans today. I Reader comments (21) on this item
