Paper tiger and wishful thinking.Reader comment on item: What Syrian Chemical Weapons Reveal about Obama Submitted by Mark Kosminskas (United States), May 19, 2015 at 17:34 Entirely correct. Every kindergarten teacher knows what happens when you promise consequences and fail to follow through. Empty threats and wishful thinking do not a foreign policy make. His recent fanciful statements on Iran are just as troubling as they apparently form the basis for his approach. He assumes the Iranian people have much influence on the behavior of the regime. Iran has all these potential assets going for it where, if it was a responsible international player, if it did not engage in aggressive rhetoric against its neighbors, if it didn't express anti-Israeli and anti-Jewish sentiment, if it maintained a military that was sufficient to protect itself, but was not engaging in a whole bunch of proxy wars around the region, by virtue of its size, its resources and its people it would be an extremely successful regional power. And so my hope is that the Iranian people begin to recognize that. In other words, if only pigs had wings, they would be eagles. Scary times.
