Less Developed CountriesReader comment on item: A Conspiracy Theory Spreads Polio Submitted by Octavio Johanson (Italy), May 25, 2005 at 09:28 I am not a Muslim, but I have enormous respect for those who believe in Islam. However, I have got to ask myself why Muslim countries are not very developed. It seems that Less Developed Countries are often Muslim and that people in those countries read less, know less and believe in conspirancy theories. That is why Polio is now being allowed to spread in Nigeria. People in the Middle East and Africa don't read enough books and don't have access to independent media. That is why it is so important that CNN is now broadcasting in Arabic. A reader talks about Social Darwinism and that is due to ignorance. I wish there was some way to send independent information to those people in their own language. This ignorance also proves that multiculturalism cannot work.
