The True Face of IslamReader comment on item: The Dobbs List: "Militant Islam Reaches America" Submitted by K Abraham (United States), Sep 1, 2002 at 21:10 I must confess that I totally disagree with Mr. Pipes. He seems to be trying to tame his opinion of Islam, sugar-coating it, and sanitizing it. Specifically, stating that militant Islam is our enemy bears no relationship to reality. The fact that there are some secular Muslims does not mean that there is a secular Islam. The fact that there are some moderate Muslims does not mean that there is a moderate Islam. Secular Muslims are a small minority- they simply don't know Islam. Moderate Muslims are certainly a good portion, yet personal experience will show that an overwhelming majority of them will quickly side with fundamentalists if Islam is attacked. It is true that Islam, not just militant Islam, is an ideology/religion, just like Nazism and Communism, Judiasm, and Christianity. But to put Islam on the same footing as Christianity and Judiasm is simply a humanistic philosophy, that is pervading our society, and shows a total lack of understanding in comparative religions. The Muslim world knows the enemy, and they are willing to die for the cause. However, we in the West have sanitized Islam, and created our own picture of Islam, and have lost our desire to fight. The enemy is us and, unfortunately, humanists who are trying to claim that all religons are equal. Islam at its core is non-peaceful, and violent, regardless of how many moderate Muslims exist. The moderate Islam has no resemblence to the Islam of the Koran and to the Islam of history. Can you explain to me, why does a Muslim in Pakistan, who has never seen a Jew, or set foot in Israel, have such a deep hatred for Jews, unless it is a dicate of his religion? Obviously all of these points can be elaborated at length. You can read and write as much as you like about Islam. It's not the same as growing up in the midst of an Islamic culture.
