Was it really mindless belligerence ?Reader comment on item: Why Erdoğan Decided to Shoot down a Russian Plane Submitted by Soloview (Canada), Dec 12, 2015 at 10:30 I am surprised that the question of Daesh oil has not entered into the conversation. I find the Russian charge of large-scale Turkish complicity (even personal involvement by Erdogan's son) compelling if only because there does not seem to an alternative explanation for the market logistics of cca $80 million monthly of cheap oil. It seems reasonable that the oil trade would be protected. Besides there was no serious challenge to the Russian story in the West. Pepe Escobar's view that Daesh dirty oil is mingled with illegal Kurdish supplies (siphoned by the KRG from Baghdad's coffers), seems convincing, as it provides both an opportunity and cover for the trade. This naturally indicts not just Erdogan but the local Kurdish operators, but since big money is involved I would not put it past some in the Kurdish leadership to make lucrative deals with heir sworn enemy.
