Double Standard Lets Gulf Arabs Off The HookReader comment on item: The Saudi Solution Submitted by Dave (United States), May 18, 2016 at 10:28 The refusal of the Gulf states to be more accommodating to Muslim refugees, accompanied by hardly a whimper of protest from the West fits a pattern of applying a double standard in general when it comes to Muslims. Examples: - The micro-focus on Israel's sins, no matter how venial, while Muslim outrages resulting in thousands killed are treated perfunctorily, often only highlighted in conservative web sites. - The mainstream media seldom reports on blatantly hateful and libelous sermons by key Islamic religious figures. Are only white Westerners capable of racism? - Where are the liberals and Left when it comes to calling out the PA and other Islamic entities for their suppression of the media and other human rights violations? - When political figures in the West call for a ban on Muslim immigration they are denounced as racist, but the Gulf Arabs' selfishness is ignored. Why? One possibility is that in general, people identify more with their own cultures, and are therefore more apt to project their feelings, both positive and negative, onto those cultures. It's much harder to see beyond yourself, study other cultures in depth, and then be able to evaluate them realistically on an equal basis with your own.
