Hello, NoSanta and Daniel, who wrote:

"Daniel Pipes replies: Yes, the revolt against Islamism and anger at the European Union are connected. I should add that I am writing this note from Edinburgh on July 1, in the midst of the UK crisis. It sure does not feel like a crisis. I am reminded that in 2010-11 Belgium went 541 days without a government ... and barely anyone noticed."

There is still a lot of fearmongering and hype against the Brexit, even today, 12 July, 2016, many days after the referrendum passed: British PM David Cameron, just yesterday, for instance, claimed that Brexit would spark World War III; and anti-Brexit French President Holland, who enjoys the support of just 15% of the French electorate, was in America, lecturing voters here that they must vote against Donald Trump, or Brexit-like (disastrous) results will happen here as well!!!!

I am not surprized that the average man in the street has long ago been immunized against taking such talk seriously. Neither have I; but I have been trying to figure out the possible impact of Brexit. Here goes:

Until the success of the Brexit vote, powerful forces (read, "Barack Obama and the elitist international community") had been pushing for the formation of a "New World Order" built around Free Trade blocs such as NAFTA, TPP, TTIP and, of course, the European Union (EU). Under such an arrangement, power would be vested in a handful of wealthy globalist monopoly capitalists, who would be able to sue sovereign states such as the US if their profit margins went south. Now, a number of factors are making this scenario unworkable:

1. Brexit, the departure of the UK from the EU.

2. Frexit, the French counterpart to Brexit, which may result if Le Pen wins the French Presidential election next year, and

3. The defeat of the TPP, if Donald Trump is elected US President. The Japanese have said that if the US refuses to ratify the treaty, Japan will not re-negotiate its terms.

The cumulative effect of these actions, will be the destruction of the "grand scheme" of uniting the Western World's putative Trade Empire. In its place will be sovereign states -- the US, Britain, France, Germany (which the rump of the EU will essentially be) and Japan, all of whom are tied to one another not with an over-arching trade pact, but with military alliances centered on and dependent upon the US.

The "Empire" will thus still be formed; but it will take on a different character: Instead of being tied together by treaties crafted by monopoly capitalists, it will be tied together by the charisma and character of the US President.

None of this is talked about by the actors themselves, much less by the subservient mainstream media and the clueless voters, which helps explain why there is so little response from Main Street Scotland. Nevertheless, it is happening; and it is an earth-changing event.
