I agree with your take on Trump; but even so, I do not consider him "loathsome". He talks like a New York City steelworker, instead of the Yale/ Harvard/ Oxford elite of the Clintons, Obamas, Bushes and others. That doesn't make him "loathsome" in my eyes; it simply makes him ordinary, like me -- red-blooded instead of blueblooded. That's what this election is all about, and why the Bushes hate Trump as much as the Clintons. Daniel Pipes himself is a Harvard man, which probably explains much.

Trump graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, and Mike Pence from Indiana University. If you want examples of previous presidents who were not from the Ivy League set, they are Reagan, Carter, Nixon, Johnson, Eisenhower and Truman. These men were not "loathsome"; but the Ivy League set looked down their noses at them. Kennedy was educated and clever enough, to get us entangled in a horrible war in Vietnam; then he left it for "commoners" like Johnson and Nixon to dig us out of it. Ditto for Roosevelt, who left the mess to red-blooded Harry Truman and Dwight Eisenhower. Nowadays, the Bushes, Clintons and Obamas, Ivy Leaguers all, have gotten us in a horrible mess from the South China Sea to the Middle East to Colombia; and it will take a pair of commoners like Trump and Pence to get us out of it.

Tim Kaine, by the way, is a Harvard man. Surprize, surprize!
