re: Quranic VersesReader comment on item: Jihad: The Fight Over Meaning Submitted by Ed (United States), Sep 7, 2002 at 12:02 "Could someone please provide a cite to the verse or verses of the Quran which instruct Muslims to forcibly convert the "infidels"? Thanks!"C.D. Please reference Chapter 8 Al-Anfal (Spoils of War, Booty) and Chapter 9 (Repentance, Dispensation). I am not an expert by any means. I did come across some translations of the Quran that MAY address your question. However, it is clear that history shows individuals are able to pick and choose what they want to believe and act upon. Please reference the following: 008.013: "This because they contended against allah and his messenger: If any contend against all and his messaenger, allah is strict in punishment. 008.014 "Thus (will it be said): "Taste ye then of the punishment: for those who resist allah, is the penalty of fire. 008.015 O ye who believe! when ye meet the unbeliever (kafir) in hostile array, never turn your backs to them. 008.038 Say to the unbelievers, if (now) they desist (from unbelief), their past would be forgiven them, but if they persist, the punsihment of those before them is already (a matter of warning). 009.005 But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the Pagans wherver ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagerm (of war), but if they repent, and establish regualr prayers and practise regular charity, then open the way for them: for allah is oft forgiving, most merciful.
