The earliest example of radical Islam / Jihad in AmericaReader comment on item: Jihad: The Fight Over Meaning Submitted by Howard Hyman (United States), Jun 6, 2002 at 17:35 Mr Pipes--If I recall correctly, the first major example of Radical Islam in America was the murder / assassination of Sen Robert Kennedy by Sirhan Sirhan. When this murderer was captured by football star Roosevelt Greer, Sirhan is quoted as saying "Death to the Jews. Death to the United States. Long live Palestine." Luckily, the United States' legal system had enough backbone to see that Sirhan was sentenced to death (which was later reduced to life in prison) A later incident of Radical Islam was the murder of Rabbi Meyer Kahane. Rabbi Kahane was murdered by a radical Muslim, whose group and associates would later figure in other murder and terrorism in the United States. An obviously bigotted, mostly Black jury amazingly found the murderer innocent of murder, and could only decide to punish him for weapons violations. The incensed judge dressed down the disgraceful conduct of the jury, and luckily gave the murderer the longest sentence available for the weapons conviction. THESE WOULD BE GREAT TOPICS FOR FUTURE COLUMNS HOWARD HYMAN Submitting....
