Palestine and TerrorismReader comment on item: Britain and France Submitted by Vincent La Placa (United Kingdom), Jul 22, 2005 at 07:04 Hello Sir/MadamI think Daniel is absolutely right. Britain has been far too soft on radical anti western groups. Only last year did the Labour Mayor of London (whom I voted for) praise a so called Islamic intellectual who advocates wife beating, suicide bombers and killing of gay men and women. In its desire to appear the most anti American, even the mainstream left is alligning itself with anti left, anti human rights people and organisations, largely reactionary Islamists. Daniel is also right about Palestine. A democratic independent Palestine (acceptable to Europe, Israel and the US) would infuriate the bombers even more as it would not be based on some anti modern seventh century ideology. There is no connection between Palestine and terrorism. I wish more people on the British left would listen to the ideas of people like Daniel Pipes who support democracy and human rights in the Middle East. This is the best way of achieving the establishment of secular left and right parties throughout the region as opposed to extremism and terrorism. Surely, there must be some more left wing neo cons out there, not willing to give in to terror and the abuse of human rights.
