Islamism....Oh no!!!

While I can see there might be political advantages in trying to divide Islam into Islam and Islamism, I cannot see the distinction has any grounding in reality. Nor can I understand why Dr Pipes has insisted that "Mohammed was a Muslim not an Islamist". If Islamism is seeking to impose Islam on society by jihad then how on earth can Mohammed have been anything but the first Islamist? The Hadiths and the Sira clearly show him using the stealth variety of jihad to take over Medina then the overt kind to take over Arabia, an example the Saudis well understand and seek to emulate on a global stage.
