Good life for wrong reasonsReader comment on item: The UAE's Fragile Good Life Submitted by Prashant, Jul 6, 2017 at 21:54 Dear Dr Pipes, Your reader Yosef from Canada stated that besides UAE many other countries in the ME like Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman, Greek Cyprus offer good life. I will not contest whether the life in these countries is good or bad because good life in many Islamic countries may be due to immense amount of oil-wealth available to them and not to good principles of democratic living. All countries mentioned by Yosef are oil rich theocracies with the exception of Greek Cyprus. I would like to know if any of these countries follow democratic values, separation of church and state, and respect for diverse beliefs. Until these values get ingrained in the mindsets of all Islamic societies, it is moot if they have good life or not because a native born apostate still runs for his/her life in these societies. We need to spread democracy in every corner of the world. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
