Unreasonable Fear, the source that keeps bullies in businessReader comment on item: A Palestinian Victory at the Temple Mount Submitted by Bruce Portnoy (United States), Jul 28, 2017 at 07:55 Before the Temple Mount was turned over to the control of the Muslim Waqf in 1967, the Arab population was fully prepared to provide to the victorious Israelis, lists of Jewish property that was illegally confiscated, and other offenses perpetrated. Instead and with amazement, the Arabs were greeted with a sampling of Jewish guilt. They were told that the hard fought for and costly in terms of Jewish lives lost, possession regained, could be shared. This sent the message that if the Jews truly valued their lands and lives, why would they so willingly give them up for some vague thought peace, especially one based upon weakness and not shared by the defeated Arab culture. This original sin was again complicated by again fear of vague threats and lack of faith in the correctness of preserving Jewish lives, employing a ubiquitous and proven security system employed even by Arab countries. Maybe, G-d Forbid, the Arabs are on to something when they say Israelis are tired of the burden of hostile population oversight and the responsibilities that go with it, including exercising the concept of protecting Jewish lives first and foremost, damn the consequences. We, Jews, have a historic tradition, baring some notable exceptions, of making wrong decisions because of lack of confidence in our abilities to discern right from wrong.
