A brave Indian chess player takes a stand against Islamic Republic of IranReader comment on item: Niqabs and Burqas Used Benignly Submitted by Prashant, Jun 12, 2018 at 23:44 Dear Dr Pipes, Amongst all the news about apologists defending fundamentalists, sometimes a news about someone's courage comes and we fail to take note of it. Your readers will recall that our friendly Islamic Republic of Iran forces foreign (and local) women to cover their heads in Hijab or Burkha. Well a young Indian junior female chess grandmaster Soumya Swaminathan was to participate in a Chess tournament in the Islamic republic and she was advised to cover her head. Soumya declined because "it was in violation of her personal rights". I would say that the girl has brains and not just because she is a chess grandmaster!
