Imagine that despite your fame and fortune you are nonetheless a tormented, miserable person. Outside of your anonymous fans, the people close to you who really know you can't stand you because you are an obnoxious, neurotic pain in the butt. You do some digging and discover that Islam's central figure was quite like like you: An emotionally marginal narcissist who was initially rejected, but then came back and got bloody revenge on all those who ever doubted his true inner worth. Plus, he became rich and important, just like you, because he deserved it. So go ahead, bow down to your true god, yourself.
