Globalism v Nationalism

Reader comment on item: Europe Wake Up!

Dr Pipes,

It must be the best kept secret. We are witnessing the struggle of our times unfolding: Globalism v Nationalism. Trump must be given the credit for stressing the obvious: Politics are local and not global. And this is why he won the election. This is also why we are witnessing the shift to the "right" in Europe and the likes of the "Gilets Jaune" in France and Brexit in Great Britain. We also forget that this change is already taking place in the Middle East. An example is Egypt where Egyptians rejected the Muslim Brotherhood flawed Umma (which is a form of Globalism) and opted for Egypt as a nation/state

However, this confrontation is most acute in Europe and only time will tell which way Europe will go. Would Europeans reject Globalism and therefore Islam or would Europe become part of the Umma?
