Arabism or IslamismReader comment on item: Will Arab Anti-Zionism Revive? Submitted by J. Sheff (United States), Jan 6, 2020 at 13:28 I'd like to know why Dr. Pipes thinks the result in Tunisia is a pan-Arabist signal rather than an indication of greater Islamic fervor in this somewhat Westernized country. Also, couldn't Husseini's use of Jerusalem to rally Arab nations be taken as an appeal to religion, rather than ethnicity--he was a Mufti, after all. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate. For complete regulations, see the "Guidelines for Reader Comments". Daniel Pipes replies: 1. Because the slogans, etc. were pan-Arabist. 2. Yes, there was a strong religious component.
