The Long GameReader comment on item: Feeling Optimistic about Israel and the Emirates Submitted by Roger Lambert (United States), Aug 15, 2020 at 07:53 Israel has always very quietly maintained that its true borders are its 1948 borders. The Arabs have never accepted the Jewish presence in the ME. This agreement is merely the UAE guaranteeing themselves a very valuable partner against the mutually assured destruction posed by Iran. Israel likes the deal, because it lengthens the sight picture of its favorite modern policy - maintaining the status quo. But if and when Iran becomes neutered permanently, the Arabs will be back at their long game. They never forgive, never forget, never accept. It's who they are. And notice who didn't actually lose anything - the PA. They play the long game also. The status quo suits them just fine as well.
