Dr. Pipes,
We must take into account that the conflict between the Palestinians and Israelis is actually much more than a "century-plus conflict." In this case, hatred and contempt toward Jews stems from the fundamental teachings of the Islamic prophet, Muhammad. The ongoing conflict over Jerusalem has existed for 1,400 years and the only way for this to come to a close is for each and every Muslim in the world to reject Muhammad's teaching that Jews (and Christians) must convert to Islam or be subjugated to second-class citizens and that Islam must prevail as the only religion in the world. The Palestinian issue is only the tip of the iceberg - for below that tip is the deep fundamental ideology that will never rest until Islam has established a global Caliphate, ruling the world under Sharia law. Presently, we are seeing more Islamic nations agreeing to normalization with plans to sign on to the peace agreement with Israel under Trump's "Deal of the Century." However, be forewarned of the Islamic war strategy called "Hudna" which allows for temporary peace with an enemy until the opportune time when that peace agreement can be broken by Muslims at a time when the other party is vulnerable for attack. Going by the track record of Islamic history, we may soon observe a short period of "peace" and containment of Islamic hostilities against Israel and Jewish existence. Meanwhile, as long as any Muslim nation or Islamic entity such as Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood continues to believe that it is their mission ordained by Allah to destroy Jews (and Christians) then the controversy will never really come to a close. Is it really possible for Muslims to reject the teachings in the Qur'an and Ahadith (sayings of Muhammad) that call for expelling Jews and Christians from the Arabian Peninsula and where Allah is called upon to destroy the Jews and Christians, as taught in the Qur'an? (Reference Qur'an 009.030) When that ideology and mindset is totally defeated throughout the entire Muslim world, then the conflict will truly be over.
