Stop dreaming and wake upReader comment on item: Surfboards to Reduce Arab-Israeli Tensions? Submitted by Dave (United States), Jan 22, 2022 at 16:37 When the Israelis evacuated Gaza, the Gates Foundation and Jewish philanthropist James Wolfensohn purchased greenhouses from Israel for the Gazans (for $14 million), but within two days the greenhouse contents were looted by the locals. Not long after that withdrawal, the rocket barrages started, and continue to this day, greenhouses notwithstanding. This is what happens when the western love-thy-neighbor mentality bumps up against the dominate-and-kill-thy-infidel-neighbor mentality. Kindness is misinterpreted as weakness. Despite the improbability of moving the peace needle, Dr. Paskowitz's gesture is something to be proud of as a symbol of the finer Judeo-Christian values, although his talk of the Gazans leveraging surfboards into an industry reminds me of the naive talk a few years ago, just before the rockets began, of how Israel's withdrawal could lead to a transformation of Gaza into another Singapore. Now, they're making the same mistake and expecting a different result. Isn't it time to stop dreaming and wake up?
