Gender assignmentReader comment on item: How to Answer When Asked for Your Pronouns Submitted by Jeff (United States), Feb 15, 2022 at 17:11 I just completed an on-line form to pre-register for a medical appointment. One question was my gender, male or female. Next question, what gender I was "assigned at birth," male or female. Well I checked the boxes, but the simple truth is, I was not assigned a gender at birth. People in the room when I was born simply observed my gender and wrote it down on a piece of paper. It's not complicated. If I was, in fact, assigned a gender, that assignment took place during a well understood process of human development, months prior to the day people, my mother among them, looked at me for the first time and said, "It's a boy."
