Fauzia Khan, Please Accept Our ApologiesReader comment on item: [Pakistani Christians and] A War Against What? Submitted by Rakshas 10 Anan (India), Nov 20, 2005 at 11:20 On behalf of many Hindu Indians, I offer commiseration. It must be galling in the extreme that after 1400 years of serious jihad, such a tribe of polytheists exists and continues to prosper. Not only that, the erstwhile dhimmis have grown in influence. Someone mentioned elsewhere how Muslims must discard people like Bin Laden and Zarqawi, throw them out of Islam. But there is a much more effective way of doing that, pursued along centuries -- you have to just kill anyone who is in disagreement, right? And it is the aforementioned worthies who decide whom to keep and whom to discard? So far as Hindus are concerned, caste is definitely to blame for their cussedness! Another person commenting on this website reflected that Hindus survived repeated genocide, simply because they fought. And they were mean fighters, by virtue of belonging to the warrior caste, trained from birth to defend their motherland fighting to the last man (and woman too, since there were many women warriors who led their men to fight against Islamic jihad)! The great King Shivaji it was, who first developed an army of warriors across castes, including the so-called 'untouchables', selecting from each group those according to their special traits in defense, who would all contribute to developing a mean fighting machine. That is how he brought the temple-breakers like Afzal Khan and Aurangzeb to their knees, putting a stop to the Islamisation of India until the current millennium. He inspired other warriors like Raja Chhatrasal of Bundelkhand and Guru Gobindsinghji in the North, having proved once and for all that it was possible to stand up to and defeat the marauders! Portuguese contemporary chroniclers have described Shivaji as a strategist equal to Alexander the Great, and it must be true if he was able to put paid to the vicious rule of Islamists in India. In the end, India had inspired warriors from among learned Brahmins as well as the lower castes. Or we would have all become pure like the Pakistanis (Pak=Pure); but I doubt that the killings would have stopped, since Islam is all about plunder and genocide, well-demonstrated since its inception to the present times! Anyway, in the next phase, as you well know, British imperialists following in Shivaji's footsteps, developed an Indian Army that was utterly caste based, including for example, the Sikh, Maratha and yes, even from among the 'lower castes' -- the Mahar regiments. The British did nothing to remove the caste inequality, but in fact consolidated it further in a fairly rigid manner, using each caste group according to its traditional professional base. They were not in India for the purpose of social reform, but to ensure that it was permanently enfeebled so as to serve the interests of the 'mother country'. In India, they dared to develop a slew of exclusive clubs, hospitals and other institutions with signboards saying "Dogs and Indians Not Allowed!" But to cut a long story short, Hindus survived, and fought back to send the British packing. After all the villainy surrounding the illogical partition of India, majority of Muslims opted to stay back in secular India, even as the Hindu populations were evicted from the Muslim-majority territories of East and West Pakistan. Despite continued Pakistani aggression against India, it must be extremely frustrating to have to face the ultimate falsehood of Islamist military propaganda! Because Hindus have grabbed every opportunity to modernise, to reform, to develop robust institutions, to educate themselves and transform in keeping with the times, resorting to birth control, seeking to raise the standards of living while ensuring social justice, and so on. Indians have practically outlawed caste in public life, except for measures of affirmative action, including democratic representation. Pakistanis have resorted to every possible trick to undermine India, but look who's suffered the most? The difference is spectacular. The bottomline here is that Hindus and all Indians have tried their best to overcome past handicaps and rise above their differences, despite the worst efforts of their neighbour. Pakistan, on the other hand, has been unable to forge its own independent positive identity, unable even to unite the Punjabis, Sindhis, Pathans, Baloch tribals and the few Mohajjirs who migrated from India into a cohesive national grouping based on equality under the banner of Islamic brotherhood. Given the choice, many of them would choose to secede from Pakistan, like the Bengalis did in 1971! By making the destruction through further vivisection of India its raison d'etre, Pakistan has simply become a rogue nation involved in sinister nuclear deals and international jihad. What can we say to you, Fauzia Khan? All that you say about India is so true, and we are ashamed of it. Even then, we cannot understand the flood of Pakistani and Bangladeshi Muslim illegal immigrants who refuse to go back to their respective Holy Lands come what may, choosing to eke out a living in the miserable slums of cities like Mumbai! Hindus are a very hospitable people, after all. And sorry for this emotional missive, but a statistical one would be even more devastating for the Pakistanis. Besides, Pakistan was the feudal but strategic military partner of USA surviving purely on massive doles from the latter, with nothing to show in terms of indigenous industrial and commercial development. It is for you to introspect on why the options have changed so drastically after the end of the Cold War and 9/11, especially. There is no explanation in the Holy Quran for it. You have to look for it yourself! Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
